We’ve just seen on CNN the news about US President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. What we had in mind is something that many might also be thinking – is Obama deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize this 2009? Just asking. Obama is one likely candidate to win the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize, alright. In fact, being the US president officially makes him the most powerful man in the world. but the question is, is the guy deserving of such an accolade after sitting as president for less than a year?

Barack Obama Speaks About Winning the Nobel Peace Prize

How about other Nobel Peace Prize candidates who have done (conceivably) more than Barack Obama? We have nothing against the committee whose members are honorable men and women. The fact that they are there as judges make them better than us, in our humble opinion. But personally, I do not see the winning of Obama as good judgment. Obama seems to be a good guy and a good president, that we do not doubt. But him winning the Nobel Peace Price this early is one award too early too soon, in our collective points of view here. Some even consider Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize as a joke. Maybe not but that’s how some people view it.

On the other hand, according to the Nobel Peace Prize committee chairman, Obama “got the prize because he has been able to change the international climate. Some people say, and I understand it, isn’t it premature? Too early? Well, I’d say then that it could be too late to respond three years from now. It is now that we have the opportunity to respond — all of us.

We do wish Barack Obama well, though. Let’s hope he will stand up to the challenge of upholding peace worldwide. Good luck, Mr. President!

    Dear President Obama,

My heartfelt congratulations to you for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I believe that it is well deserved because of your vision. Let us hope that you eventually realize this vision – it will certainly require a lot of effort and co-operation at home and abroad. I am Canadian so along with a Happy Columbus Day wish to you and your beautiful family, allow me to wish you a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Day as well!
    Sincerely, Ms. Roberta Fuller

After 263 days for taking office, Mr. Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize. It is said that this prize “rewards him more for promise than achievement” and some people, such as Lech Walesa, Poland’s former president and a Nobel laureate, said it was too early to bestow the award on the 48-year-old US president.
Maybe this award could not be regarded as an honor for Mr. Obama but an honor for the whole States. As the first Black president, Mr. Obama is charming, partly for his attractive appearance and partly for his good silver tongue, and besides these, he is the proof of the American Dream. Mr. Obama had told us about his family, his father came from a small village of Kenya; he used to be the shepherd. And then with the scholarship, Mr. Obama’s father came to the States as an abroad student. Then he met his mate for the whole life—- Mr. Obama’s mother, a young lady from the small town, Kansas. Her father was the typical American citizen at his time; he worked for earning the living of his family and joined the army to fight again the Nazi during the Second World War. As Mr. Obama’s parents tied the knot, they moved to the west for running after their dreams, the fantastic American Dream. I could remember what the Godfather said, he believed that in this continent, his children or his grandchildren would one day catch the opportunity and may be one day one of them would be the president. When the young shepherd sat on the hill in Kenya, could he believe that one day, his black skin son would be the president of the country in another continent? Then America told the world, it could be possible.
The Nobel Peace Prize is issued to Mr. Obama, but in my opinion, it is issued to the fighters in American history for the freedom and for the rights of black people. From President Lincoln to Mr. Martin Luther King Jr., hundreds of thousands of people are fighting for the equality in this state. And now as Mr. Obama is the president, it could be a success for this fight. I know that one day that we do not need to have the rubber wristbands which printed the “Freedom” or “Equality” to show our mercy to the black people in this country. And I think this is what the Nobel Peace Prize is issued to.
