Gateway DX4200-09 1.8GHz QuadCore Media Center with HDMI Review: Gateway 1.8GHz QuadCore Media Center with HDMI is on sale for only $289.99 and while the price is very low, part of this review will not be good. Some may agree with us but some may not, as the usual case in the past whenever we publish a review. First off, the Gateway DX4200-09 1.8GHz QuadCore Media Center is a good desktop PC. With HDMI, this computer system becomes even more attractive to bargain hunters like us. Yes, we love cheap deals, we admit.

In addition to our initial good review of Gateway 1.8GHz QuadCore Media Center with HDMI, what we like about it is the powerful processor – AMD Phenom X4 9100e 64-bit Quad-Core. This processor can be overclocked easily. In our case, our generic (not refurbished) unit with this processor was overclocked 10%. Some of our peers in the business even claimed that they were able to overclock this CPU up to 20%. We’re not just sure how the performance of AMD Phenom X4 9100e will be in the long run. But our unit is doing pretty well at the 10% mark. You can also do this with the Gateway 1.8GHz QuadCore Media Center with HDMI but we cannot really recommend it if you’re not adept into tweaking PC parts. If you’re an experienced computer technician, go ahead and make your day!

On the other hand, what is missing with the 290-dollar deal on woot is an LCD monitor. But hey, what’s the use of the HDMI port, right? Corollary to this, there are lots of cheap LCD monitors you can choose from (in case you’re used to using a PC with an LCD screen, just like us). The only advantages of using an HDMI, instead of a conventional computer monitor is that you can download movies or streaming videos from Netflix and other sources, play your favorite movies or personal videos on a bigger screen like a Sony Bravia 32” Class LCD HDTV or a Panasonic Viera Z1 Series 54″ Plasma TV, that will enhance viewing.

Moreover, the RAM capacity of Gateway 1.8GHz QuadCore Media Center with HDMI is a great feature. With a maximum capability of 8GB (4GB built-in), this is a powerhouse. OF course, this won’t be the case if other parts are not in good shape like its graphics card. With its powerful There’s also plenty of room to move around (see photo of the CPU) that is why upgrading parts is easy.
